No. A job offer is not required for CEC eligibility. Job offers also no longer receive CRS points as of March 25, 2025.
Do I need proof of settlement funds for CEC?
No. IRCC exempts applicants applying under CEC from the Express Entry proof-of-funds requirement.
Can work completed while I was a full-time student count?
IRCC states that work experience gained while studying full-time, including co-op work terms, does not count toward the CEC Canadian work-experience requirement.
Does self-employment count for CEC?
Generally no. IRCC currently has a temporary public policy that can allow certain foreign national physicians providing publicly funded medical services in Canada to count qualifying self-employed time.
Can I use work experience from Quebec?
Yes, qualifying Canadian work experience gained in Quebec can count, but CEC applicants must intend to live outside Quebec.
Is one year of Canadian work enough to guarantee permanent residence?
No. One year / 1,560 hours is part of the CEC minimum work requirement. The applicant must meet all other CEC rules and then receive an invitation through Express Entry before submitting the permanent residence application.
