Alberta PNP / Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)

Alberta uses worker and entrepreneur streams to support provincial labour-market and economic priorities. Worker applicants begin with a Worker Expression of Interest and can apply only if invited. Argus can help identify the stream that fits your Alberta connection, occupation and job situation.

Overview

What is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?

The AAIP is Alberta's provincial economic immigration program. Alberta nominates eligible workers and entrepreneurs for permanent residence, while IRCC makes the final federal decision.

Eligibility

AAIP worker streams

Alberta currently identifies four worker streams: Alberta Opportunity Stream, Alberta Express Entry Stream, Rural Renewal Stream and Tourism and Hospitality Stream. The Alberta Express Entry Stream also includes dedicated pathways and priority initiatives.

Each route has its own work status, occupation, job offer, language, education and Alberta-connection requirements.

Key requirements

Worker Expression of Interest and invitations

Worker candidates generally submit a Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI). The EOI is scored and placed in a pool. Alberta selects candidates based on scores, labour-market needs, priorities, nomination allocations and application volumes.

A WEOI is not an application and does not guarantee an invitation.

Application process

How an AAIP worker application works

  1. Identify the relevant stream or pathway.
  2. Confirm current eligibility.
  3. Submit a Worker EOI.
  4. Wait for an invitation.
  5. If invited, submit the AAIP nomination application.
  6. After nomination, complete the federal PR process.
Documents

Documents commonly needed for AAIP

  • passport and status documents;
  • Alberta job offer and employment records where applicable;
  • work-experience evidence;
  • language and education records;
  • professional licensing where applicable; and
  • documents supporting WEOI claims.
Current priorities

2026 Alberta selection priorities

For 2026, Alberta identifies health care, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, agriculture and Rural Renewal communities among its main worker priorities, while noting that the list is not exhaustive. Priorities and nomination spaces can change during the year.

Common issues

Common AAIP application problems

  • submitting a WEOI for a profile that does not meet a stream;
  • assuming a high score guarantees selection;
  • job-offer or work-permit problems;
  • NOC duties not matching the occupation claimed; and
  • losing eligibility while waiting.
