Canadian citizenship status is considered as one world’s most revered and valued domicile status. Canadian passport is world’s 9th most powerful passport. According to Henley & Partner’s passport index, Canadian passport holders do not require visa for travelling to 185 countries.

There are three different ways to obtain Canadian citizenship. Such as:

  1. You are born in Canada
  2. You are born outside Canada to a parent (legal or biological) who is a Canadian Citizen. The first-Generation limit is applicable.
  3. Become naturalized in Canada

In this article we will discuss about how to become to Canadian Citizen by naturalization process.

Eligibility for applying:

  • You should 18 years old, and if less than 18 your parent or legal guardian must apply on your behalf, and they should be citizen or applying for citizenship
  • You should be a permanent resident of the country and have lived in Canada for at least 3 years (1095 days) out of the last 5 years
  • You have abided by all rules and regulations of the country and have paid you taxes as expected.
  • If you are between 18 to 54 years old, you must:
    • Meet the language requirement of CLB 4 in listening and speaking either in English of French
    • Pass the citizenship test
    • Take the oath of citizenship

Application Process:

Once you meet the eligibility requirements, you are required to submit an paper based or online form (not applicable for all applicants) by paying the application. You can check the status of your application process by using the acknowledgement of receipt number (AOR). Accepted applicants have to appear for Citizenship test and interview. The test is 30 minutes which is conducted in English or French.

Studying for the Test

You need to study from the official guide that is given free of cost. The test comprises of 20 questions about the rights and responsibilities of Canadians as well as the history, geography economy, government, laws and symbols of Canada. You have to answer correctly 15 out 20 questions to pass the test.

  • MP3 audio version
  • Downloadable the PDF or eBook
  • Alternatively, you can order a printed copy of the material.

After the test you will meet with a Citizenship official for interview where they will check your language skills and might ask questions about your application. If you pass and meet other requirements you will get a ceremony date.
