Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC)

If you are a skilled worker with foreign work experience, seeking permanent residency in Canada you can apply for this category. Minimum eligibility includes language ability in English or French with a High School or Graduation degree. Skilled work experience translates to working at least one year in the NOC 0,A,B job groups, which mainly includes (but not limited to) following : Managerial jobs, Professional jobs, Technical jobs and skilled trades with varying levels of skill specified.

Eligible candidates are accessed on a100-point grid-based scoring system on six primary factors including:

  • Age of the candidate
  • Education
  • Work experience
  • A valid job offer,
  • Language skills

The current minimum score is 67.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

If you have already worked as a skilled worker in Canada and have valid experience to show you can apply for this program . Minimum criteria includes set language levels (NOC 0, A = CLB 7, NOC B = CLB 5) in writing, reading, listening speaking and at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before you apply. The job can be full time or part time as long as it meets the required hour’s criteria.

If you are applying for this category make sure:

  • You’re not a refugee claimant in Canada
  • You’re working with valid authorization
  • Your work experience was gained with temporary resident status in Canada
  • Your work falls under the NOC approved category.

According to NOC, skilled work experience in this programme translates to NOC 0, A, B:

 

Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC)

The Programme is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on their qualification of a skilled trade. Minimum eligibility to be considers includes,

  • Required minimum CLB 4 in : writing, and reading, and CLB 5 in listening, and speaking.
  • Have at least 2 years of full-time work experience ( or an equivalent amount of part-time work experience) within last 5 years
  • Meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as set in the National Occupational Classification
  • Has an offer for full-time employment. (Non Seasonal)
  • Proof of Funds.

The NOCs eligible for this program fall under category B which includes (but not limited to) below subgroups:

  • Industrial, electrical and construction trades (Major Group 72)
  • Maintenance and equipment operation trades (Major Group 73)
  • Chefs and cooks (Minor Group 632)
  • Butchers and bakers (Minor Group 633)

Once you’re in the Express Entry pool your profile will be assessed based on CRS scores.

The highest-ranking candidates from the pool are then invited to apply for permanent residency.

Comprehensive Ranking System or CRS

The Comprehensive Ranking System or CRS is a points-based system that the IRCC uses to assess and score profiles already in the Express Pool to rank them in order of merit. Various factors such as, age, education, language proficiency,  professional skill,, work experience, , adaptability and job offer are used to generate points on the basis of which candidates are ranked out of a total of 1200 points. The higher you score the greater the chances of getting an invitation.

Once you have invitation to apply you have 60 days to submit all the required documents.
